On Albania's southern coast is the beautiful city of Saranda. Our director in this seaside paradise is Fatos Demiri. Unfortunately, sun and sea breezes do not mean an easy life for everyone.
Fatos and his family minister to Saranda's school age orphanage as well as the needy elderly at the Threshold for Hope. Fatos is a well respected businessman in Saranda and instills his ethics and values on these children and elderly through good example and the love of Christ.
Like most of our staff, Fatos comes as a family package. Every day he or his wife or two sons can be found visiting the orphans and providing them things like birthdays, field trips and daily essentials.
Most importantly, we try to reach their souls and provide a spiritual foundation of love and kindness. By teaching them our great commandment to LOVE GOD AND ONE ANOTHER, these children live with HOPE for today and for the future.
The Threshold of Hope is a retirement center for the needy elderly in Saranda. Government-run, like our orphanages, our role here is the same as with the children: to provide HOPE where it is hard to find.
We provide the folks here with trips and lunches, crafting supplies and dominoes, help them around town and provide newspapers and "luxuries" like reading glasses. We also provide them church services, bibles and birthdays, and an open-door policy from Fatos and his family for any need or spiritual guidance they may seek.
Perhaps most of all, they love the activities we have for them. In their own words, "Hope for the World has made us feel young again!"
Along with caring for the needy in Albania for over 25 years, Roger and Cherie have spent a lifetime in Evangelism, Gospel music and soul-winning services for Christ Jesus.
